From Brooklyn to the Courtroom — and Beyond

Dr. Keith White, Esq. was born and raised in the Brownsville section of Brooklyn, New York — one of the most under-served and under-resourced communities in the United States. That origin is not background detail. It is the engine of everything he does.

Raised in a community where the justice system too often failed the people it was meant to serve, Keith made a commitment early in life: to use the law as a tool for equity, not just for order. That commitment has never wavered — not through law school, not through the prosecution of violent crimes, not through landmark civil rights cases, and not through the completion of a doctoral degree at the University of Southern California.

A Lawyer Shaped by Community

Keith began his career as a teacher at Boys & Girls High School in Brownsville — while simultaneously attending Brooklyn Law School at night. That formative experience — standing in front of young people whose futures depended on the quality of education and opportunity available to them — sharpened his conviction that justice must be pursued in every arena, not just the courtroom.

After earning his J.D. from Brooklyn Law School in 2001, Keith joined the Kings County District Attorney’s Office as a prosecutor, where he gained extensive trial experience handling felony and violent crime matters. That prosecutorial experience gave him an inside view of how the criminal justice system operates — its strengths, its failures, and its profound capacity to destroy or restore lives.

A Practice Built on Principle

Since leaving the DA’s Office, Dr. White has built a distinguished private practice at the intersection of civil rights, criminal defense, entertainment law, and business advocacy. He has served as Independent Counsel for prominent Brooklyn community and faith leaders, represented clients before state and federal courts, and worked with NYCHA, HPD, and HUD to develop and build affordable housing for thousands of families across Brooklyn and New York City.

His notable case work spans the breadth of the law: he has represented victims of police misconduct and civil rights violations, handled high-profile criminal defense matters, navigated complex intellectual property and copyright disputes in the entertainment industry, and advocated for clients whose stories demanded to be heard.

The Scholar-Practitioner

In 2020, Dr. White completed his doctoral studies at the University of Southern California, earning an EdD with a research focus on educational equity, poverty, and restorative justice in under-served communities. His academic work reflects a conviction that runs through his entire career: poverty does not have to be permanent, addiction should not be criminalized, mental health challenges should not be punished, and the people most harmed by systemic failure deserve the most vigorous and thoughtful advocacy.

Dr. White continues to write and speak on the intersections of law, education, race, and justice. His writing can be found on Medium at drkeithwhite.medium.com.

A Leader in the Community He Serves

Beyond his legal practice, Dr. White is a co-founder and Executive Director of The BKLYN COMBINE, a non-profit organization that partners with under-resourced schools around the world to provide coding, life skills, mentoring, and restorative justice programming. He also serves on the boards of GEMS (Girls Educational and Mentoring Services), KAVI (Kings Against Violence Initiative), The Public Policy Lab, The Noel Pointer Foundation, and The Black Institute.

These are not honorific affiliations. They are extensions of the same commitment that has guided every chapter of his career.
